親愛的學生與家長們：
這幾天，有很精彩的放榜結果；UCLA 與其他私立有大學放榜。
我們萬里首先要祝賀以下的巨星學生：
20位進UCLA (錄取率分析以下);
2位進 西北大學 (加Early Decision總數 3位)
2位進全世界第一名女子學院Wellesley (提早通知)
5位進 Williams College (correction from last email)
1位進 Brandeis
4位進 Boston College
2位進 Boston University
1位進 Harvey Mudd (加Early Decision總數 2位)
1位進 南加大 ($5萬獎金/年 = $20萬/4年; 提早通知)
2位進 Pomona
1位進 Colby
UCLA 錄取率分析
根據 UCLA 網站， 它們今年有92000新生申請者，拒絕了77000 位。就表示有15000 被錄取或後補 (Waitlist).
所以 UCLA錄取率最高只能是 16.3%; (15,000/92,000) = 16.3%.
UCLA還沒有透露Waitlist 有多小人；它們去年Waitlist 3700 位學生。那麼如果今年也一樣，UCLA 的錄取率會變成 12.2%. (15000-3700)/92000 = 12.2%。 12% 就是每8個人收一個。
也許UCLA今年沒有Waitlist 那麼多 ， 錄取率最高也是15%左右。這15% 是包括全部種族，外州與國際學生。 那麼南加州的華人學生的錄取率了？ 當然更低； 我們估計是 10%。
沒錯！UCLA 就那麼難；現在 進UCLA好像是進長春藤那麼難。 但我們萬里的學生也不會被“不公平”政策擋住。我們在一次恭賀進了UCLA學生們；他們面對千困萬難， UCLA多難也攻下來 !
這樣的結果當然不是一天一夜的事；這是學生家長們十幾年的戰鬥與奮鬥。
我們學生團隊的下一個目標是全世界鼎鼎大名的 Berkeley (3/26放榜)。 如果是一部電影的話，我們學生團隊已經包圍這個 Berkeley 城堡。3/26 “開戰”的時候，萬里每一位精兵們都想打前鋒，最快的速度把Berkeley 的名校旗奪下來。拿下來Berkeley/UCLA或其他名校的旗，學生們的信心必然提高到可以“動山”的力量。
看到子女勇奪名校之旗，家長的笑容會永不消失。

UCLA is approaching Ivy League Admit Rate
Since UCLA has not released their official admit rate, we need to do some quick calculations. According to UCLA website, UCLA had 92,000 freshman applications this year and rejected 77,000. That means 15,000 students were admitted and Waitlisted (WL).
So the admit rate is at most 16.3%. (15,000/92,000) = 16.3%.
BUT that 15,000 number also included waitlist also; UCLA has not released number of Waitlist yet; last year, UCLA waitlisted 3700 students.
So the admit rate could be as low as 12%: (15000-3700)/92000 = 12.2% (Approaching the Ivy League!). That is one admission for every 8 students.
That is the overall admit rate, including all ethnicities, out-of-state and international students. For Asian students from Southern California, the admit rate is probably LESS THAN 10%!
For those students who have been offered WL for UCLA and other schools, please get on the WL for UCLA, other UC’s and privates schools. You have nothing to lose!
