City of Los Angeles 

Minimum Wage Increase for the City of Los Angeles, Unincorporated Areas of LA County and City Contractors or Lessees.

The City of Los Angeles, all unincorporated areas of LA County and all City Contractors or City Lessees is scheduled to have a minimum wage increase effective July 1, 2018.

The minimum wage in Los Angeles will rise according to the following schedule:

 - Employers with 26 or more employees generally must pay a wage of at least the following hourly rates:

  •  $13.25, beginning July 1, 2018;
  •  $14.25, beginning July 1, 2019; and
  •  $15.00, beginning July 1, 2020.

- Employers with 25 or fewer employees generally must pay a wage of at least the following hourly rates:

  •  $12.00, beginning July 1, 2018;
  •  $13.25, beginning July 1, 2019;
  •  $14.25, beginning July 1, 2020; and
  •  $15.00, beginning July 1, 2021.

If you have employees working in at least two hours in a one-week period in the City of LA or any unincorporated areas of the County, you are required to pay them the County minimum wage for each hour worked in the unincorporated areas.  Please note, this only applies to unincorporated areas, not cities with local city governments.

Los Angeles Contractor or a Lessee of the City of Los Angeles property

If your business is a Los Angeles Contractor or your business is a Lessee of the City of Los Angeles property then you need to follow the Living Wage Ordinance Minimum Wage Effective July 1st, 2019  below:

The living wage rates, effective July 1, 2019, will increase by $1.00 per hour for a new living wage rate of $14.25 per hour with health benefits of $1.25 per hour, or $15.50 per hour if health benefits are not provided. These increases are applicable to service contractors, lessees, licensees, City financial assistance recipients, and their subcontractors that are subject to the Living Wage Ordinance.


*The “Full Cash Wage” is the wage rate that employees must receive if their employer does not provide them with health benefits.

For "Airport Employees," the living wage and health benefits hourly rates, effective July 1, 2019, will increase to $15.25 per hour and $5.34 per hour, respectively or $20.59 per hour if health benefits are not provided.

Visit the County Registrar Recorder’s website to see if your business is in an unincorporated area.
