Knabe was and remains to this day an American icon in piano building. At the time this piano was built, Knabe took 2 years to craft in Baltimore, Maryland. The quality of craftsmanship is evident in the sound, response and appearance of the instrument.
This piano was restored to its original glory with a recent rebuilding and refinishing. It has a beautiful, closed-pore, red mahogany lacquer finish in keeping with its original manufacturing. The piano has new strings and a re-gilded plate with sound holes that feature a lovely rose ornamentation. It has new tuning pins as well as new key tops and damper felt. The soundboard and bridges have been reworked and the piano has good crown which produces a warm, sustained tone throughout all registers.
The action has new Renner whippens, as well as new shanks and hammers with a medium action weight. This piano provides a high level playing experience and a gorgeous piece of furniture, a work of art, as well as being a concert level piano.
