If someone has caused damages to you in some way – e.g., physically, emotionally, financially or to your reputation, etc. – and you’re entitled to receive compensation for damages, don’t wait to until it’s too late.

In this short animated video, our character, William, was the victim of defamation, but he failed to initiate his lawsuit before the statute of limitations expired. In the end, he became unemployable and was unable to recover damages caused by the defamer.

Depending on the type of case, there are statutes of limitations that limit the maximum amount of time you can wait before initiating your lawsuit. In addition, statutes of limitations may differ state by state.

Some people incorrectly think they have unlimited amount of time to file their lawsuits; others fail to understand the future ramifications of an event until it’s too late. In both cases, if a statute of limitations has expired, the lawsuit is “time barred” and will be “dismissed” if brought to court.
If someone has caused you damages that you’re entitled to recover, be sure to contact an attorney immediately.
